John Banister Mansion
Built in 1751, this historic building has been restored to its original splendor as a colonial mansion. The John Banister is located one block from Banister Wharf on Newport Harbor and is part of the Historical Hill. It is furnished with period furniture and 18th century art work collected from Newport estates and by Captain John Banister on his numerous trading expeditions to India, Africa and the Far East.
The Mansion has rooms, suites, and apartments, some with views of the harbor and historical hill. Each bedroom has a working fireplace.
The John Banister mansion has three fully equipped kitchens which can be booked separately. Inn is available for private functions, receptions, and parties as well.
The Mansion was also the headquarters for British General Prescott during his occupation of Newport from 1776-1779. The Banister house played an important historical role in Colonial America and has been featured in Colonial Inns Magazine.
